  • No! And I won’t. When I write, the point is to communicate what is in my head—based on what I have seen and experienced—to you via the wonderful technology that is written communication. If I asked an algorithm to guess what I was thinking about when I watched The Red Shoes, for example, what value would the response be?

    Similarly, the only “AI” I have used in photography are the “remove” tools in Lightroom that allow for slightly faster and better looking erasing of distracting objects or elements of a picture. I use these very sparingly.

    As you can see, I do use em-dashes and other esoteric punctuation. Blame my academic education! It’s a useful punctuation and I am not going to give it up just because those algorithms decided to overuse them.

  • My dissertation was on what I call “elegiac sequels” but are more commonly known as legacyquels, or legacy sequels. I am working on adapting segments of that thesis for this blog and a wider audience.

    My Master’s Thesis was on Fanny & Alexander as oppositional storytelling. You can find it here, if you’d like. I wouldn’t really frame it in the same way were I to write it now, particularly the “atoning” aspect, but I do stand by the bulk of it.

    I didn’t publish anything during my time as a Ph.D. student, so I can’t point you to any of those. I might adapt a few other essays for publication here instead.

    I’d also like to write a little about photography. I read a lot of people thinking deeply about what photography means and how we interact with it. I’m just an amateur, and proudly so, but I do think it would be fun to put my thoughts down and perhaps get into a dialogue with some of the people I have read on the subject.

    I’ll also write about specific movies when one hits my fancy.
